Gowda nom. n., a replacement name of a genus group taxon

in the order Hemiptera

(Coccoidea, Pseudococcidae)

Ahmet Omer Kocak Muhabbet Kemal

Abstract: Gouxia nom. n., a replacement name of a genus group taxon in the order Hemiptera
(Coccoidea, Pseudococcidae). Cent. ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 149: 1.

In this short nomenclatural note, a replacement name, Gouxia (nom.n.) is proposed for the pre-
occupied genus name Giraudia Goux,i989 from France.
Keywords: Hemiptera, Coccoidea, Pseudococcidae, Giraudia, Gouxia, nomenclature.

Coccoidea
Pseudococcidae

Gouxia nom. n.

Within the frame of the Entomofauna projects by the Cesa 1 , we noticed that the genus name
Giraudia proposed by Goux in 1989 2 is invalid as being junior homonym of Giraudia F6rster,i869
(Verh. naturh. Ver. Rheinl., 25: 184) (Hymenoptera), and also Giraudia Bourguignat.,1885 (Not.
Prodr. Moll. Giraud Tanganika: 11) (Mollusca). Under the Rules of the Homonymy (ICZN,1999)3, a
junior homonym name cannot be treated as valid. In the current literature, the genus name
Giraudia Goux,i989 is used as valid 4, 5 5 6 The name has no synonym; therefore we propose here a
replacement name Gouxia nomen novum for Giraudia Goux,i989 nee F6rster,i869 non
Bourguignat,i885. The new name is dedicated to the author, who established 20 generic names in
Hemiptera between the years of 1933 and 1990; but nobody proposed a genus name after Mr.
Goux, so far.

The necessary name combination is proposed below:

Gouxia danielaferreroae (Goux,i989) (comb.n.) France.

Nomenclatural notes on the genus group names

in Orthoptera

Ahmet Omer Kocak Muhabbet Kemal

Abstract: Nomenclatural notes on the genus group names in Orthoptera. Cent. ent. Stud., Misc.

Pap. 149: 2-4.

In this paper, following new names are proposed for the pre-occupied genus group names in various

orthopteran families. The preoccupied generic names are: Oxystethus Redtenbacher,i89i,

Encalypta Redtenbacher,i89i, Habra Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891, Hellerina Galvagni,20o6,

Cophus Saussure,i874, Dhofaria Kocak & Kemal, 2008. The proposed replacement names are:

Unalianus 110111. n., Cesacalypta 110m. n., Cesasundana nom. n. (Tettigoniidae), and Otteius

110111. n. (Gryllidae). Hellerina Galvagni,20o6 (Raphidophoridae) is reported for the first time as

junior homonym. Dhofaria Kocak & Kemal, 2008 (Pamphagidae) is invalidated.

Key words: Orthoptera, nomenclature, Indo-China, Indonesia, Comoro, Madagascar, Malaysia,

Borneo, Cuba, Dhofar.

Within the frame of the Entomofauna projects by the Cesa?, the following genus group
names in the order Orthoptera, recorded as invalid as a result of the nomenclatural surveys carried
out by the authors in the last years. In the present paper, totally 6 invalid genus group names are
evaluated nomenclaturally. As a result of this, four replacement names are proposed: Unalianus
nom. n., Cesacalypta nom. n., Cesasundana nom. n. (Tettigoniidae), and Otteius nom. n.
(Gryllidae). Separately, Hellerina Galvagni,20o6 (Raphidophoridae) is reported for the first time
as junior homonym. Dhofaria Kogak & Kemal, 2008 (Pamphagidae) is invalidated, as it is junior
synonym and homonym of Dhofaria Popov,io,85.

Tettigoniidae

Conocephalinae
Agraecini

Unalianus nom. n.

The genus name in the family Tettigoniidae, Oxystethus Redtenbacher,i89i (Verh. zool.- bot. Ges.
Wien 41: 441) is invalid, as it is junior homonym of Oxystethus Fairmaire 1883 (Le Naturaliste 2
(30): 238) (Coleoptera). There is no nomenclaturally available synonym of Oxystethus
Redtenbacher; therefore we propose a replacement name for it, Unalianus nom. n., after the name
Dr. Mustafa Unal, a Turkish Orthopterist, due to his numerous important taxonomical
publications.

The necessary name combinations are proposed below:

Unalianus harmandi (Brongniart, 1897) (comb. 11.) Thailand.
Unalianus heteracanthus (Redtenbacher, 1891) (comb.n.) Indo-China.
Unalianus homoeacanthus (Redtenbacher, 1891) (comb.n.) Cambodia.
Unalianus intermedius (Redtenbacher, 1891) (comb.n.) Java.
Unalianus intermedius ssp. brevipennis (Redtenbacher, 1891) (comb.n.)

Cesacomora nom. nov

The genus name in the family Tettigoniidae, Encalypta Redtenbacher,i89i (Verh. zool.- bot. Ges.
Wien 41: 332) is invalid, as it is junior homonym of Encalypta M6schler,i890 (Abh. Senckenberg.
Ges. 16 (1): 147) (Lepidoptera). There is no nomenclaturally available synonym of Encalypta
Redtenbacher; therefore we propose a replacement name for it, Cesacomora nom. n. Derivation
of the new name is a combination, created with an institutional name and the Comoro Isl.

The necessary name combinations are proposed below:

Cesacomora comorana (Chopard, 1958) (comb.n.) Comoro Isl.
Cesacomora cucullata (Redtenbacher, 1891) (comb.n.) Madagascar.

Phaneropterinae

Cesasundana nom. n.

Habra Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891 is invalid, as it is junior homonym of Habra Agassiz,i846
(Nomen. Zool. Index Univ.) {Mollusca) (Range: Greater Sunda Islands). There is no
nomenclaturally available synonym of Habra Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891; therefore we propose
a replacement name for it, Cesasundana nom. n. Derivation of the new name is a combination,
created with an institutional and the name of the Islands.

The necessary name combinations are proposed below:

Cesasundana producta (Karny, 1926) (comb.n.) Malaysia, Java.
Cesasundana securifera (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891) (comb.n.) Borneo.

Raphidophoridae

Dolichopoda (Dolichopoda) Bolivar, 1880

Hellerina Galvagni,2006 was recently synonymized with the nominate Dolichopoda Bolivar,i88o
by Rampini & di Russo, 2008 (Fragmenta Ent. 40 (2): 229). Moreover, the name Hellerina
Galvagni,2006 is also junior homonym of Hellerina Dworakowka,i972 (Bull. Acad. pol. Sci. Ser.
Sci. biol. 20: 849) in Hemiptera (horn, n.)

Gryllidae
Otteius nom. nov.

The genus name in the family Gryllidae, Cophus Saussure,i874 (Mission scientifique au Mexique
et dans lAmerique centrale 6: 454) is invalid, as it is junior homonym of Cophus Gist.1,1848 (Nat.
Thierr., 144. ) (Hymenoptera), and Cophus Agassiz,i846 (Nomen. Zool. Index Univ.) (Coleoptera).
There is no nomenclaturally available synonym of Cophus Saussure,i874; therefore, we propose a
replacement name for it, Otteius nom. n., after the name Mr. Daniel Otte, who founder and
principal author of the Orthoptera Species File Online.

The necessary name combination is proposed below:

Otteius thoracicus (Saussure, 1874) (comb.n.) Cuba.

On the other hand, establishment of new tribal name, due to the homonymy of Cophusini Ruiz-
Baliu & Otte, 1997, is necessary. Therefore we propose here a replacement name Otteiini nom. n.
for Cophusini Ruiz-Baliu & Otte, 1997, based upon the genus name Otteius by us.

Pamphagidae

Akicerinae
Thrinchini

Dhofaria Popov, 1985

=Omania Popov,i98o nee Horvath,i9i5
=Dhofaria Popov, 1985, J. Oman Studies 8 (1): 73.
=Dhofaria Kocak & Kemal,20o8

Recently proposed Dhofaria Kogak & Kemal, 2008 (Cent. Ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 141:3) is invalid
and it is junior synonym and homonym of Dhofaria Popov,i985 (syn.n., horn. n.).
The name Dhofaria Popov, 1985 was overlooked in the Zoologicus Nomenclator and Orthoptera
species online.

A replacement name in the family Pyrgotidae (Diptera)

Ahmet Omer Kocak Muhabbet Kemal

Abstract: A replacement name in the family Pyrgotidae {Diptera). Cent. ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 149:

4-5-

In this short nomenclatural note, a preoccupied generic name, Nicholsonia Malloch,i929 is

discussed from the nomenclatural standpoint, and a replacement name Korneyevia (nom. n.) is

proposed.

Key words: Diptera, Pyrgotidae, Nicholsonia, Korneyevia, nomenclature, Australia.

Pyrgotidae

Korneyevia nom. n.

The generic name Nicholsonia Malloch,i929 ([in] Bezzi, Proc. Linn. Soc. N.S. Wales, 54, 31)
(Diptera, Pyrgotidae) is invalid, as it is junior homonym of Nicholsonia Tutt 1902 (Nat. Hist. Brit.
Lep., 3: 386) (Lepidoptera), Nicholsonia Davis 1885 (Kentucky Foss. Cor. 2: pi. lxxviii) (Bryozoa),
Nicholsonia Schlueter 1885 (Cat. Expos, geol. Congr. geol. internat., (3rd sess.) Berlin: 53)

Description of taxa in the family Tettigoniidae
from South East Turkey (Orthoptera)

Ahmet Omer Kocak Muhabbet Kemal

Abstract: Description of new taxa in the family Tettigoniidae from South East Turkey

(Orthoptera). Cent. ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 149: 5-6, 2 figs.

In this paper, a new subgenus Erdemia subgen.n. and a new species Phaneroptera (Erdemia)

erdemi (sp.n.) are described in the subfamily Phaneropterinae (Tettigoniidae'). Brief notes on the

distribution and flight activity of the species are given.

Key words: Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae, Phaneropterinae, Phaneroptera, Erdemia, hackeri,

erdemi, Turkey, description, new species, subgenus.

In this short paper, a new subgenus Erdemia subgen. n. is described below in the genus
Phaneroptera Audinet-Serville,i83i (Tettigoniidae). Separately a new species Phaneroptera
(Erdemia) erdemi (sp.n.) is described from §irvan (Siirt Province) in South East Turkey. Short
notes on the species of the subgenus Erdemia are mentioned.

Tettigoniidae

Phanerop terinae

Phaneroptera Audinet-Serville,i83i

Phaneroptera Audinet-Serville,i83i, Ann. Sci. nat. Paris 22 (86): 158-159 (two species included). Type-species: Gryllus
falcata Poda,i76i, by subsequent designation under the plenary powers (Opinion 154; see Melville & Smith,i987).

In the nominate subgenus, two species Phaneroptera nana Fieber,i853 and P. falcata
(Poda,i76i) are well known in Turkey. The occurence of the third one, P. sparsa (Stal,i857) in
Turkey is still doubtful (tinal, 2007 10 ; Infosystem of the Cesa n ). The last species, Phaneroptera
hackeri Harz,i988 is placed here in a separate subgenus, which is briefly described below:

Erdemia (subgen.n.)

Type-species: Phaneroptera hackeri Harz,i988, here designated.

Diagnostic features: Size, shape of the body and wings similar to nominate subgenus. However, in
male, apical part of epiproct strongly developed and curved ventrally; cerci broadened apically;
subgenital plate shaped in different form from all species of nominate subgenus.

Due to its several peculiar structures of the male genitalia, the species, Phaneroptera
hackeri Harz,i988 is placed here in a separate subgenus in the genus Phaneroptera.

The generic name is proposed after Mr. Erdem Seven, who collected the specimens in South
East Turkey.

Phaneroptera (Erdemia) hackeri Harz,i988

(Fig.l)

This species is confined to the mountainous region of South East Turkey. The species was
described by Harz (1988) based upon the two specimens (male holotype and allotype) [examined] 12
collected from 12km west of Hakkari city at 1500m on 12.9.1985 by H. Hacker.

Phaneroptera (Erdemia) erdemi (sp.n.)

(Fig.2)

The present new species is the second one in the subgenus Erdemia, and based upon the
Holotype (A) and 3 BB (Paratypes) collected from §irvan 1020m (Siirt Province) by Mr. Erdem
Seven on 2.8.2009 (in coll. Cesa). It is easily distinguishable from P. hackeri by the shape of the
ovipositor from the lateral view. The male genitalia of both species are similar. The phenology of
adult stage is apparently from August to September. Adults are nocturnal, and attracted to lights
(after E. Seven). More information on the morphology, distribution, behaviour and the ecology of
these species is needed.
